LOTS OF WORK, CHATTING, EMAILING, TRAVELLING, THINKING, ADDING UP &TC HAS BEEN GOING BEHIND THE SCENES FOR THE ORGANISING OF TECH_2.  HERE IS AN UPDATE.

THE BUS TRIP

On 13, 14, 15 July the tech_2 pilot/planning project happens.

This is a road trip.

We will go to all the tech_2 venues plus some other interesting media / tech related initiatives.

Anybody who is going to get involved with tech_2 is welcome to come on all or some of the jouneys.  It will be a great opportunity for chatting and planning, and also to check the specifics of different places.

There will be a online booking form soon so that people can book themselves in for all or some of the journeys.

If you are based at or near any of the "stops" and have suggestions about what we should do please shout.  cooking and crashing places are especially welcome. The trip will be free and food subsidised, but you will have to get yourself to and from your chosen getting on/jumping off points.

draft route:

(13) Friday eveningİ  london-bristol
(14) Saturday midday  bristol - birmingham
Saturday evening  (or sunday morning) birmingham - manchester (red bricks)
(15) Sunday afternoon manchester - leeds
(16) Monday afternoon  leeds - london possibly pop in to RTI in sheffield??
and/or via. luton (exodus collective)

much more soon on this. If you are interested in coming then shout and pass the word around especially if you are connected to one of the venues.

BRISTOL

Workshop dates set for: 17th - 24 August.
Theme is along the lines of: independent infrastructure provision for independent media initaitives.

We've already talked to: Tao (canada), Riseup.net (US), Protest.net (US), cat and spinach (AU), Sarai (India).  There will be more.  We need to make a list of europe and UK people we'd like to see there.

There will be a mixture of closed working sessions and more public / advertised stuff. We'll draw on the skills and activities of everyone coming to make these into a programme, and the cubers are also going to make some workshops for us.

The first weekend will be quiet as most of the cubers are going to the big chill festival.  This can make some quiet working time, building up to more "public" stuff later in the week and quite likely on saturady 24th.

Suggestions please!

The programme in bristol is being put together by MAP, Toni Prug, Cube.

LEEDS

Draft workshop dates are:  round about 17 - 22 September
Daft seminar and event date is: 20 October
Workshop will be at Archway: a housing support centre for 16 - 25 year olds in Leeds.
Most but not all of the workshop activity will be for the centre users.  The idea is to make week of workshops at Archway, then go away (leave carole there), giving the group time to work on some content.  After 3 or 4 weeks we return to make an event at central library in leeds: a discussion during the day and event in the evening (dj's, poets, break-dancers, all sorts,) plus of course the material that the Archway folk have made.

Carole will write a more detailed update soon, with more on the content and themes.  There are lots of collaborators in this part of tech_2, which she will detail.

The programme is being put together by MAP, Carole Wright, Pavilion/Swtiched-on, Archway centre.

BIRMINGHAM

We will go to birmingham sometime in septebmer to make a day-long workshop/meeting.

NEWSPAPER

Will make a newspaper hopefully in time for the beginning of August, that will be a general context for tech_2.  More on this later.  We have made an allowence in the budget for seperate cheepie fliers/info sheets for all the venues so the pressure is slightly off putting all the programmes in the newspaper (tho' we could still meet this maybe).

Jason Skeet is putting an editorial group together

more soon on this too.

TECH_2 3RD WORKSHOP

Will come together later, for easter or summer 2002.
