Archway Versions

"Archway Versions" is a 6 day intensive digital arts workshop for Archway Centre Members, 10 - 16 September 2001, followed by one month of supported access to equipment, and culminating in a showcase event at Leeds Central Library scheduled for 13 October 2001.

The workshop will begin with workshop participants bringing in their own or found images, sound and text in order to develop content ideas, in collaboration with eachother. Digital versions will then be produced, to be exposed, celebrated and reflected upon at the showcase event.

We reckon that these ways of using multimedia software tools can enable experiences to be expressed at speed. Ideas can be thrown together, different versions can exist in the same space. Putting sounds, images and texts together in this way enables us to examine the relationships between the different media elements, between ourselves as individuals and groups, and with our environments.

The workshop combines practical, skills based sessions, with focussed periods of content development. It aims to encourage dialogue and collaboration, and build confidence. Participants will research and explore available resources through their own cultural networks.

Tech_nicks 1 in 2000 was a programme of events that brought together different strategies for using immediate resources and technologies to develop independent media structures and support interventions into cultural and social spaces. Tech-2 in Leeds wants to develop some of these ways of working.
